Throughout his career, Roger Ballen has aimed to express the human psyche and explore the hidden forces that shape identity. In his series of sixty black-and-white photographs, Ballen introduces a persona named Roger the Rat, creating a part-human, part-rat character living outside mainstream society. These images, produced in Johannesburg between 2015 and 2020, differ from his previous work while maintaining the distinct Ballenesque aesthetic. This book presents a compelling visual journey that lingers in the reader's mind long after viewing.
