No Joke

No Joke is a groundbreaking collaboration between Roger Ballen and Asger Carlsen, featuring a series of 37 black-and-white photo-sculptures exploring the subconscious and the human psyche through a surrealist lens. Each piece is a layered, dream-like collage merging elements from both artists’ works: body parts reimagined, masks, graffiti, animals, and eerie architectural settings. This ongoing exchange, resembling a surrealist cadavre exquis, evolved entirely through digital collaboration since 2013. The result is a body of work both unsettling and indefinable, compelling viewers to continually reassess its enigmatic scenes.
