Dorps: Small Towns of South Africa captures a vanishing "Old Africa" through Roger Ballen’s lens. For years, Ballen, an American, traveled South Africa’s towns, developing a unique vision of overlooked places, humble people, and time-worn artifacts. His direct, unembellished style transforms everyday scenes into poetic fragments, offering an intimate portrait of these communities. This work, one of the purest in South African photography, was first published by Hirt & Carter in 1986 and reprinted by Protea Boekhuis in 2011.
