Polaroids

After five decades of photographing, I recently began to produce polaroids that incorporate drawings. For the first time in my career these images integrate drawing and photography on a physical image rather than the drawing being photographed itself. The drawings on the polaroids transform the medium of the photograph. Instead of bringing photography into drawing, I have now with this particular series brought drawing onto the photograph therefore producing an undecidable mixed medium. Rather than producing images of the real I have now produced a new medium of drawing that extends the forms of reality and the so- called Ballenesque aesthetic. In this approach the product is not a drawing or photograph, but both.
