Art Paris, the spring art fair that was postponed and reinvented as a virtual online art fair, will be returning to the Grand Palais from the 10th to the 13th of September.
Galerie Karsten Greve and Caroline Smulders present Roger Ballen.
Between installation, drawings and photographs, the world of Roger Ballen will be revealed to the public of Art Paris. The photographer from New York, based in South Africa, is one of the most innovative of his generation. After obtaining a diploma in psychology in 1972 at Berkeley, he completed a PhD in geology in 1982, and only then embarked on his photographic journey. Roger Ballen puts his device at the service of the psyche: Archetypes rise to the surface and occupy the image. Both mysterious and explicit, Roger Ballen’s works are intended to be epiphanies, revealing moments that allow visitors to grasp what remains unexplainable.
Roger Ballen’s artistic style, commonly referred to as Ballenesque, is widely accepted as one of the most influential forms of expression in contemporary photography. The artist’s personal exhibition at Art Paris echoes the major exhibition of the year, “The world according to Roger Ballen”, at the Halle Saint-Pierre in Paris, which includes photographs, installations and drawings by the artist. The exhibition will be extended until the end of the year.
